Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman PLC celebrates a century of service.

The firm introduces a refreshed brand and updated visual identity, streamlining its name to Simmons Perrine PLC.
The story of Simmons Perrine PLC begins more than a century ago, when James H. Trewin joined his son Harold R. Trewin and attorney Haven Y. Simmons to form the firm Trewin, Simmons & Trewin in 1916. This partnership laid the foundation for a legal practice built on integrity, service, and a steadfast commitment to clients.
Throughout the early decades, the firm expanded under the leadership of attorneys whose names would define its identity for generations. Notably, Beahl T. Perrine and Justin W. Albright joined in the mid‑20th century, helping develop what became Simmons, Perrine, Albright & Ellwood, then the largest law firm in Cedar Rapids.
Parallel Growth: The Founding of Moyer & Bergman
While Simmons Perrine grew steadily, another Cedar Rapids firm was taking shape. In 1961, former Iowa Public Safety Commissioner Clinton Moyer and attorney William Bergman established Moyer & Bergman, which quickly evolved from a two‑person practice to a full‑service firm handling complex, high‑profile matters. Among these was its work beginning in 1970 on the creation of Colorado’s Keystone Resort, now an internationally recognized destination.
Moyer & Bergman became known for its entrepreneurial approach, cross‑disciplinary skill, and long‑term client relationships — qualities that would later complement the strengths of Simmons Perrine.
A Natural Merger of Two Longstanding Firms
By the 2000s, specialization in the legal profession made collaboration increasingly valuable. In January 2009, Simmons Perrine and Moyer & Bergman merged to form Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman PLC, bringing together two respected legacies under one roof. At the time, the combined firm included 52 attorneys in Cedar Rapids and an additional team in Iowa City, creating one of the largest law firms in the state.
Continued Growth and Community Commitment
In the years following the merger, the firm expanded to serve clients across more than 30 practice areas, earning recognition from Best Lawyers®, Chambers USA®, Super Lawyers®, Martindale-Hubbell®, and other respected organizations. The firm’s attorneys have long been active in community organizations, charitable foundations, and civic leadership, reflecting the service‑driven values established in the earliest days.
Entering a New Era: A Modern Identity Rooted in Tradition
In 2025, the firm introduced a refreshed brand and updated visual identity, streamlining its name to Simmons Perrine PLC. The update honored the firm’s rich heritage while embracing a forward‑looking vision that reflects how its people work today—collaboratively, strategically, and with deep respect for client partnerships.
This rebrand marked the beginning of the firm’s next chapter: one that maintains its century‑long commitment to excellence while positioning Simmons Perrine PLC as a modern legal partner for clients in Iowa and beyond.
