Steve Holtman has been a cornerstone of Simmons Perrine PLC since 1973, bringing more than five decades of legal experience to the firm’s litigation practice. A nationally respected attorney, Steve has built a legacy of excellence in commercial and business litigation, representing clients in complex civil matters involving breach of contract, business torts, intellectual property, and securities.
Throughout his career, Steve has litigated cases in state and federal courts across 25 states and has argued before nine of the 12 United States Courts of Appeals, as well as the Judicial Panel on Multi-District Litigation. His courtroom presence and strategic insight have earned him a reputation as a formidable advocate and trusted advisor.
Steve began his legal career as a law clerk to the Honorable Donald P. Lay of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. His legal education was briefly paused from 1968 to 1970 when he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War—an experience that shaped his resilience and commitment to service.
In addition to his litigation practice, Steve has been a frequent presenter at continuing legal education seminars, including the American Bar Association Annual Meeting. He has also contributed to the legal profession through active involvement in the Iowa Bar Association, including serving as Chair of the Antitrust and Trade Regulation Committee.
